My First Custom Rainbow

This week, I have had the house to myself, aside from my dogs.  The wife and kid were in Mexico on a mission trip to help build a house.  They are coming home tonight - while it was fun for a while to live the life of a bachelor (ahhh, McDonalds, how I have missed you!) I am more than ready to have my family back. You know it's bad when you start talking to your dogs so much, they just get up and leave the room. While I was envisioning this plethora of time watching tv, while swimming in

Frank Thomas Rated Rookie? Former Donruss Employee Confirms Existence

SPORTS CARD DAILY ONLINE Monday, March 17th 2014 Written By: Joseph King Frank Thomas Rated Rookie? Former Donruss Employee Confirms Existence.  In what could be the most exciting news to come out of baseball cards from the early 90's, a former Donruss employee has confirmed that there are a very small number of Frank Thomas "rated rookie" baseball cards from the 1990 Donruss "AQUEOUS" set in existence.   Known by collectors as the "junk wax" era, the late 80's and early 90's were dominated by the "big Five" - Topps, Donruss, Fleer, Score and Upper Deck. "The printing presses literally

Tier One Bash Brothers Dual Patch … CUSTOM STYLE!!!

So, I think I've continued to drive my family nuts by obsessing over how to do some patch cards.  How to cut straight, how to glue, how to do this, how to do that, etc. And then the questions - why isn't my printer printing straight?  Didn't you hear me, printer?! I SAID LANDSCAPE MODE!!!  How can anyone possibly cut these jersey windows properly? I'm serious, people.  This is draining so much of my time, it is getting in the way of my television watching.  I haven't been able to watch mah stories all week! Well, at a little past

A VERY good week for my Personal Collection

I have posted a few times this week about some custom cards for my pc (Canseco). I was really bitten by the custom card bug hard. Mainly because Canseco prematurely ended his career, and I wished that the card companies would make more legends cards of him. Since that didn't happen, I decided to step in :) Soooo ... I pulled out the big guns ...   After doing a few mockups, I knew I wanted some of my favorite years of Topps ... in some of my favorite colors, blue and yellow: of 2009 ... and 2011 ...  and

Lookie at what I got …

How to Become a Part Time Dealer – Part Two : Buying Tips

It has been nearly a week since I posted part 1 of this "How to Become a Part Time Dealer" series, and with some downtime now, I figured I would post the other part.  Here you go! There is a lot of emphasis on the selling portion of this - everyone is hot to sell things, but that is only half of the equation.  Perhaps equally important is the buying.  If you don't buy right, you can't sell to make a solid return on your investment. If you are new to the whole selling thing, or are dabbling in selling,

How to Become a Part Time Dealer – Part One : Selling Tips

I'll never forget it.  I was in 5th grade, and myself along with some other baseball card loving kids pursuaded the school to allow us to put on a baseball card show at the school, and use the tables as dealers would.  My folks allowed me to buy a few boxes of cards to sell them by the pack to customers just like my local neighborhood dealer / hero would.  I was in heaven!  Well, that is, until the kids started guilt tripping me into selling the packs for much, much cheaper than I should have.  That was actually a

The Joy of Living in a Baseball Card Shop

Back in 5th grade, my folks saw that I was struggling in school.  They decided to give me an incentive by way of the all mighty dollar.  For each 'A' this hopeless scholastic mess would achieve, I would have $10.  $5 for a B.  My brain was churning a mile a minute when I heard this news. "Okay, okay, okay...." I thought to myself.  "If I make straight A's, that is $80 to take to The Bullpen to spend on baseball cards at the end of the semester! Guess who got straight A's that semester?  This guy.  The next semester, I

…And even more of the haul

After (im)patiently waiting through a 3 day delay, santa claus dressed up in brown shorts knocked on my door last night with a trolley full of goodies.   I even busted open my first two boxes:  2010 Topps Hobby Update and 2012 Topps Series 2 Jumbo Rack.  It was fun - I hadn't done that for a while.  It makes me want to rip even more!

11,500+ Packs of Baseball Cards … want some? (Buying Binge – part 2)

So, this has been the 4th year in a row that I bought out a boat load of boxes and cases.  The box total is up over 600.  While I didn't actually buy any loose packs, if you count them up from the boxes and cases, they total up to over 11,500!  This is the biggest wax acquisition I have ever made! Why do I do this? I have found out that I can have a blast opening a ton of wax while making a few bucks selling some boxes.  These should last me throughout the year.  I hope to
