A few years ago, I found an old journal entry from 1990 discussing how March 12th 1989 was when I started officially collecting baseball cards. What a wild ride it has been!
I went from having no cards over $5, to a single player collection that received national attention, to selling off, to now having a better collection of Canseco cards than I’ve ever had before! (My collection is way smaller, but packs a much bigger punch!)
I fell in love with vintage, and have been able to get some pieces I never thought in my wildest dreams I’d be able to obtain – that might not be saying much coming from someone who couldn’t even dream about an 86 Rated Rookie back as a kid.
My sights were fixed firmly on the 1989 Topps Canseco card. (Side note: the shop didn’t have one, so I ended up getting the 1989 Score which I love as well.)
Fast forward 36 years from being geeked out about a 1989 Topps card, to creating high-end cards for people’s collections (mine included, of course.) I think 9 year old Tanner would be quite thrilled. I’m including a pic of one I created recently that Jose signed, in the style of 2017 Dynasty.
So…..Happy Baseball Cardiversary to me I guess! – may we all recapture that spark we had as children where the cards themselves captivated us – regardless of value!
