Top 100 Jose Canseco Baseball Cards – 1996 Select Certified Mirror Gold

This card deserves some proper hype.
In 1991, Donruss tried something bold with Elite — calling it “ultra limited,” serial-numbering it to 10,000, and framing it with foil. At the time, that felt revolutionary.
A couple years later, Topps raised the bar with 1993 Finest Refractors. Cards like nothing collectors had ever seen before, and this time limited to just 241 copies. The hobby took notice.
Then came the knockout punch.
In 1996, Select Certified Mirror Gold didn’t just push the envelope — it obliterated it. Only 30 copies of each were produced, instantly redefining what a true grail card looked like. Now, nearly 30 years later, they’re exponentially harder to track down.
Bathed in a holographic gold finish, Mirror Golds are widely considered the purest definition of a grail. The kind of card that sticks in your head, the kind that shows up in your dreams. I say that from experience.
This was the #1 card on my want list. It also happens to be a record-setter for how high a Canseco card has sold at the time of this writing.
What makes this copy especially meaningful to me is its provenance — it came from the personal collection of Pinnacle’s CEO. That’s the sole reason it remains in its PSA slab. In this case, the slab isn’t about the grade; it’s about the story.
Because knowing this was his copy makes it more special to me than a PSA 10 ever could.
