Top 100 Jose Canseco Baseball Cards – 2000 SPX Winning Materials Canseco/Bonds/Griffey /50

First multi-player relic card appearance!

Recently, I’ve become obsessed with uncovering what makes various cards special – especially cards that I didn’t think too terribly much of to start with.

This card fits that bill perfectly. The 2000 SPX Winning Materials came in two flavors: unnumbered with Canseco and Bonds, and numbered to /50 with Canseco, Bonds, and Griffey.

As it turns out, this is Jose Canseco’s very first appearance on a multi-player game-used card, and just might be for Bonds and Griffey, too. (Bonds/Griffey guys, help me out here!)

While 26 cards are in the unnumbered set, only three were selected to be serial numbered – all to /50. Griffey was on two of them.

As a Canseco collector, I’ve gotta say – placing Bonds and Griffey on the same card with him is a dirty trick, but super exciting to own! Three rabid fanbases fighting over just 50 copies of a card created during their playing careers 25 years ago can prove to be quite a dogfight.

Thanks to the serial numbering, I was able to determine the copy I have is the exact copy I had in my previous collection. A true boomerang card – it bounced around the world a few times before making it back to me.

These are extremely difficult to find, and condition sensitive – I’ve only seen a few of these in the set, and many of them have bends and other condition issues.

While a sale of the /50 hasn’t happened in ages, the unnumbered Canseco/Bonds version has enjoyed quite the increase in value this past year.

Happy to have this one back, especially now that I know it is Jose’s first multi player relic card appearance, and not only that, but also with the Rawlings logo for Jose’s relic!

Do you know the phrase “Farm to Market?” For some reason, that’s what this card feels like to me – a ball freshly plucked out of the bleachers Jose hit it to, and put inside of a card. The card radiates game used-ness 🙂
