Once in a blue moon, card companies forego placing the best material inside of the 1/1 … this is one of those times. The ’05 SP Legendary Cuts Classic Careers run of cards feature six one of ones: base 1/1, auto 1/1, jersey 1/1, jersey auto 1/1, patch 1/1, and auto patch 1/1.
The top dog should be the auto patch 1/1, but they used an inferior patch to this one. The 1/1 only has a regular 3 color patch, while this auto patch #/5 features the face of the elephant logo sleeve patch. This choice is confusing, but perhaps understandable, if you assume Upper Deck wasn’t carefully scrutinizing the Jose Canseco run like I would have done. In any event, this is one of the few instances that perhaps the edge can be given to the #/5 over the 1/1.
