Top 100 Jose Canseco Baseball Cards – 1999-02 Donruss Season Stat Lines
If you don’t know about these cards, allow me to give you a back story as to why they are so special. In 1998, Pinnacle (the owner of Donruss & Leaf brands) went bankrupt. Playoff swooped in, and in 2001, brought the Donruss baseball cards to market for the first time since ’98.
Donruss made some “retro” sets – that is, sets of cards that could have been, had Pinnacle not gone bankrupt. The cards you see above are called “Season Stat Line” cards. These cards came in three flavors: base, career stat line (foil, with serial numbers) and of course, Season Stat Lines, which are serial numbered, and holofoil. The four above have the first three (1999, 2000, 2001 all from 2001 packs) and 2002. The hardest one to find by far is the 2nd card shown, as it is the only one I’ve seen. It is so special of a card, that I almost hate to show with the run of four, but all of them are special, so it is difficult to leave the others out!
