If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’ve been teasing something. The black bag. The biohazard sticker. The “something big is coming” posts. Time to pull back the curtain – a little.

This October, I’m launching The Steroid Era – a 30-card Jose Canseco set unlike anything that exists in the hobby. Five waves. Six cards per wave. One wave per month from October through February.

This isn’t a Topps product. This isn’t Panini. This is one collector who’s spent years obsessively documenting everything Jose Canseco, working directly with Jose himself to create something from scratch.

So what is it?

Every card in The Steroid Era reimagines Jose through a different lens – what I’m calling the Cansecoverse. Some designs pull from real moments in his career. Others go somewhere else entirely. Steampunk Jose. Gladiator Jose. Jose as a literal colossus. I don’t want to spoil all 30, but I will say that Wave 1 drops in October and includes a design made specifically for Halloween.

Each card comes in multiple variants – base cards with silver and gold holographic foil, plus hand-signed autograph versions. Every single order gets packaged individually in a sealed specimen artifact bag. Yes, that’s the black bag you’ve been seeing. It’s part of the experience.

Why am I doing this?

Jose is one of the most fascinating figures in baseball history – 462 home runs, an MVP, a guy who literally changed the game – and I don’t feel the card market has ever given him his due, so this is my attempt.  Every official commemorative card of his centers around his 40/40 season, whereas online discourse tends to discuss steroids or the ball bouncing off his head.  He is so much more than that.

Throughout his career and beyond, Jose Canseco has transcended far beyond baseball, and into the very fabric of pop culture.  He had a 900 number, a candy bar, and was on the cover of tabloids regarding his Madonna exploits.  He’s been featured on television, and blockbuster movies have referenced him.  He was considered the best baseball player in the world at one point, and ultimately changed the game of baseball itself.  Think that’s a lot? It is only the tip of the iceberg.

This has been months of work, designing 30 card variants.  It’s the most ambitious thing I’ve ever launched for the public, and I can’t wait to show you what’s inside those black bags.

What’s next?

Wave 1 drops October 2026. I’ll be revealing card designs, pricing, and full details in the coming weeks. If you want to be the first to know when everything goes live, sign up below. Mailing list subscribers get first access before the public launch.

More soon. The Steroid Era is coming.
